Axiom Verge does speedrunning and gifs right

Separate mode for when you gotta go fast

I had Axiom Verge on my mind earlier today when writing about Ghost Song, another promising Metroidvania. This slick gif ensures the game will remain there for the rest of the day.

Designer Tom Happ included it in a blog post covering Axiom Verge‘s Speedrun Mode, which is also worth talking about. Crucially, the mode will lock in the title’s randomized elements.

“[E]very enemy is in its place, and there are no secret areas to serve as a distraction from the main game,” writes Happ. Players can also bypass dialog and check their progress with an on-screen timer that tracks milestones like beating bosses. Love the way they explode!

Five plus years into development, Happ says he’s “getting close to launch.” We’re ready.
