Battlefield 1943 is a huge hit, servers still being added

As a follow up from yesterday’s report on the state of Battlefield 1943, we have some good news as well as some bad. While EA DICE has been adding server after server to remedy the connection problems many players are facing, we’re not in the clear just yet.

Producer Gordon Van Dyke has brought us an update on the game’s forums:

With servers catching up to capacity needs we were able to confirm an issue other than capacity is affecting playing with friends. We are aggressively working on this to have it fixed ASAP and agree with comments that not being able to play with friends is unacceptable making it very important to fix. It is very unlikely to be client side and needs fixing within our network infrastructure.

That … doesn’t sound very promising. With more than 80,000 people playing the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Battlefield 1943 at launch, it was difficult enough getting into a quick match, but trying to jump in a room with friends? Persistence is the name of the game.

On the bright side, it looks like it won’t be long before the community reaches 43 million kills and the fourth map unlocks. Still, you have to wonder, did people not think this game was going to be a success? It’s got Battlefield in the name, you know.
