Electronic Arts has Electronic Arts has announced today the details of the previously revealed Battlefield novel. Called Battlefield 3: The Russian, the book is being penned by ex-SAS operator and author Andy McNab, along with Peter Grimsdale.
The book will pick up where the game’s single-player campaign leaves off, telling the story of one of the title’s characters, GRU operator Dmitri “Dima” Mayakovsky. The game itself will be told through a series of flashbacks, putting players in control of a number of characters including Dima. The book is said to “give a thrilling new perspective into Dima’s own personal quest as well as the events of Battlefield 3.”
“It is impossible for any single medium to fully capture the emotion and intensity of war,” says McNab. “The Battlefield 3: The Russian novel is one window into the experience, and the game is another. They complement each other perfectly.”
Battlefield 3: The Russian is out October 25 alongside the game. It’s actually pretty surprising to hear that the novel won’t come with a one-off redeemable code for in-game content, like Lionhead did with its Fable book. Well, there are still a few months to announce that, I suppose.
