Gotta draw ’em all
I’ve always wanted to learn how to perfect my nonexistent drawing skills, but games that promise to help me bone up on my technique just don’t tickle my fancy. They’re so dry. So boring. They need more Pokémon. Finally, Nintendo is reaching out to me with a solution! Enter Pokémon Art Academy, coming to the 3DS. It’s cute, wants to teach you how to draw, but puzzlingly, doesn’t feature any 3D.
Aside from drawing some decidedly freaky Pikachus with dead, soulless eyes, the game looks to serve up a decent variety of different monsters with what I can only assume are RPG-lite elements. Or, I hope they are, anyway. It could be an interesting departure from the regular Pokémon games, or it could be a vapid waste of time. I’m kind of interested in learning to draw my favorites, but given as this Japanese announcement has yet to be confirmed for a Western release, I may never get my hands on it anyway.
Pokémon Art Academy releases June 19 in Japan for 3,619 yen (~$35) and as a digital and retail release. It also features over 40 art lessons. That’s over 40 chances to impress me.
