I woke up this morning to find a few sites reporting that Bethesda Softworks would be bringing an unannounced surprise to E3. This by way of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, who has reportedly hinted that Bethesda would have a “secret” “surprise” for the show, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles later this month. Some have even begun speculating that the next Elder Scrolls would be uncovered.
Here’s the thing — this isn’t true. Bethesda has already revealed its E3 hand. Its previously announced games, Fallout: New Vegas, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, and Brink will all be playable. id Software will also be bringing along a hands-off version of its long-awaited first-person shooter, Rage. I know this because Bethesda has already publicly announced it, and at a pre-E3 event, I already had a chance to see this stuff. I look forward to bringing you more details when E3 starts.
Does Bethesda has something else up its sleeve? Has it been hiding something? In short, no. When contacted, Bethesda’s Pete Hines was clear: “We’ve announced everything we’re showing and talking about at E3.”
To be honest, Bethesda doesn’t need a surprise. I don’t think I’m breaking any embargoes by saying it has a strong E3 line-up, shocking reveals be damned. Do you not agree?
