Bravely Second looks beautiful, but what’s up with the bondage?

Unfortunately I’ve yet to get around to playing Bravely Default, so I’m not entirely sure what the deal is with the bondage. Is it a thematic thing or a literal thing? Clue me in. Unless it’s spoilers. Then don’t.
