Bungie has made a compromise following community backlash surrounding the time-gating of Into the Light weapons. Instead of releasing the second half of the Brave Arsenal through May 21, all weapons will become available by April 30. While there are still three weeks between the start of Into the Light and the full Brave Arsenal, Bungie’s willingness to reverse this unpopular decision is a victory within itself.
Into the Light is an April 9 content update for Destiny 2. While there’s still more to be revealed in Bungie’s upcoming streams, the studio has already shown off the Onslaught horde mode and rewards for the update. Following up on its second stream, Bungie shared a Dev Insight post adding further context to the Brave Arsenal’s reveal. Toward the end of the communication, Bungie revealed that only half of the 12 Brave Arsenal weapons would launch alongside Into the Light, with the full arsenal drip-fed through May 21.
Making things worse, limited edition variants of Brave Arsenal weapons are only available until the launch of The Final Shape, creating FOMO for later arrivals. Naturally, the Destiny community wasn’t too thrilled with the news, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment. In response, Bungie also took to social media to announce a plan change.
Bungie walks back Brave Arsenal releases
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Bungie responded to player frustration over the Brave Arsenal time-gating. The studio said, “First up: we’ve seen the feedback on releasing an additional weapon each week after the first six drop on April 9, and we’re condensing the schedule to release everything by April 30th, rather than May 21st.”
In the attached comments, Bungie noted that while it’s moving the release timetable forward, it still wants players to spend the first few weeks focused on the first six Brave Arsenal weapons. The studio also added an additional silver lining while describing drop rates for Into the Light. Bungie noted, “The weapon drop rates during Destiny 2: Into the Light will be among our highest in Destiny’s history, even harkening back to the days of Season of Opulence.”
Players have generally taken Bungie’s reaction well, with several commenting on the studio’s string of posts applauding the decision. X user @aksis_21 perhaps said it best with a simple, “YES THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.” Of course, it’s nearly impossible to please all fans, but by and large, it seems this compromise has garnered a positive response from Destiny players.
