Hoping for the best here
I can already tell it’s going to be a long road to Call of Cthulhu‘s 2017 release, but I’m hopeful we’ll get to see how Cyanide is handling its investigation-centric horror gameplay shortly here.
Today’s trailer mostly reiterates the basic beats. Our protagonist, Edward Price, is a 1920s Bostonian private investigator looking into the unusual death of the Hawkins family on Darkwater Island. The island lives up to its name. A spooky robed man with a slashed-up face is doing god-knows-what and somewhere Cthulhu is dreaming, preparing for its great awakening.
Staying sane is a concern. “[A]s your investigation brings you closer to Cthulhu’s sphere of influence, madness will progressively engulf your senses, leaving you to increasingly question what is real and what is illusory. They say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth and you will have to balance your sanity against your determination to discover it!”
Cyanide and publisher Focus Home Interactive have emphasized that there will be “stealth mechanics,” and I’m anxious to see how much of a role they actually play. Like, can I shoot the horrible monster men, or am I going to have to just hoof it every time I get spotted and hide out?
