A few hours into Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you’ll be able to bond with your very own Ikran mount. Faced with several color choices, you may be wondering if you’ll be able to change your Ikran’s pattern later.
Yes, you can change your ikra’s color and pattern any time after you make your bond. At first, you will only have access to the pattern you initially chose, but there are additional patterns and cosmetics you can unlock.
You’ll see a myriad of wild Ikran colors during your ascent up the Ikran Rookery, but they appear to differ somewhat from the patterns that you’re able to pick. I chose the pinkish-tan pattern, and though there are other wild pinkish-tan Ikrans at the Rookery, mine lacks their green stripes.
How to change your Ikran’s pattern
To change your Ikran’s pattern, go to your character menu (tab on PC). Click on your Ikran icon in the upper left corner to see all of your Ikran customizations. All options are purely cosmetic and don’t affect any in-game stats.
Patterns only change the color and designs on your Ikran’s hide. They do not affect the headgear, harness, or streamers, so you’re free to mix and match their appearance as desired.
Cosmetic overrides are full overhauls of your Ikran’s appearance. They replace your Ikran’s color and accessories and are essentially a full-body skin. As the name implies, cosmetic overrides will completely override whatever pattern/gear you have equipped. And while there are plenty of options to play with, the mount’s name is permanent and cannot be changed.
How to obtain new Ikran patterns
The menu when selecting your initial Ikran color states that “other patterns can be found in the world,” implying that you can unlock more patterns through gameplay. I’ve found one additional pattern so far after completing one of the main story missions. It’s possible that the four default options you did not pick will be unlocked as you progress through the story.
The other method for obtaining Ikran patterns is through the in-game store. Various designs and cosmetic packs can be purchased for Tokens, a premium currency you can purchase with real money. These patterns are also different from the ones found on wild Ikrans.
If you pre-ordered Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, then you should have the Resistance Ikran Premium Override unlocked for you already, granting you an attractive ikran skin with war paint and matching accessories. It’s primarily blue with pinkish undertones and black and white war paint, and includes gear with a blend of Na’vi and RDA style.
