Nothing’s stopping you
The Mercenaries mode has officially returned to the Resident Evil 4 remake, albeit with a few changes. This fan-favorite minigame reimagines the core gameplay of Resident Evil 4 as an arcade-style shooter, with high scores to chase and multiple characters to play as.
In most versions of the original game, you unlocked Mercenaries by completing the main story. Naturally, you may be wondering if the Resident Evil 4 remake is handling Mercenaries the same way. Because this mode is treated as DLC this time around, the unlock requirement has changed. For those of you eager to jump in and play as HUNK, this is undoubtedly a good thing.
How to unlock Mercenaries in the Resident Evil 4 remake
You do not need to complete the main story to unlock the Mercenaries mode. In fact, you don’t need to achieve anything specific in-game to get it! If Mercenaries isn’t on your main menu, that means you still need to add it to your account.
Go to your platform’s respective storefront and make sure Mercenaries is in your library. This mode is available as free DLC, so ignore any other microtransactions that have since become available. For Steam players, make sure you specifically click “Add to Library” instead of the download button. Otherwise, you’ll trigger an error message about data inconsistency instead of getting that shiny new game mode.
Once that is settled, you can play the Mercenaries mode whenever you like. The game will advise you to finish the main story before playing it, but you are free to ignore this warning and dive right in. Have fun unlocking everything in this optional minigame, and make sure to follow our tips and tricks to get the most out of the action!
