Captain Obvious: Naruto: Rise of a Ninja sequel in development

When Naruto: Rise of a Ninja was released last year for the Xbox 360 I was initially pretty skeptical. After seeing the way the Naruto franchise was being whored out with sequel after sequel — very quickly becoming the new DBZ in that regard — I just assumed it would end up being a half-assed, sub-par game: as licensed titles have a tendency to be. But damn if the footage in its trailers didn’t look nice.

After reading Dale’s overall positive review, however, I was willing to give the game a shot. In the end, it turned out to be a fun, if way too short, ride, and it did have some really nice looking cel-shaded graphics. Seeing as it only covered up to episode 80 in the show’s timeline, though, it was painfully obvious that a sequel would be forthcoming at some point. That time may be nigh, if a recent news update from Dutch gaming site InsideGamer is accurate.

According to a spotty translation of the text, it would seem that Ubisoft has titled the sequel Naruto 2: Broken Bond and has it set for a November 14 release. Based on the title, and where the original game left off, Broken Bond will probably cover all the way up to Naruto and Sasuke’s big flashback-filled fight.

Until we get an official announcement from Ubisoft, though, we’ll need to take this news with a very tiny grain of salt (who would bet against another Naruto game coming out?) and seeing as how E3 is right around the corner, it’s a pretty safe bet that some concrete details will be announced then. Do you have any interest in yet another Naruto game being released?
