I don’t care what anyone else says, but I was actually looking forward to Project H.A.M.M.E.R quite a bit. It looked like brainless, dumb, hamfisted violence and that’s the kind of thing I sometimes want in a videogame. Sadly, however, it’s not what Nintendo wants in its videogames anymore, and in the wake of such exciting titles as Let’s Act Like Twats at the Carnival and Tenuous Mario Inclusion 176, it seems there just isn’t room for one man and his hammer.

Famitsu has reported that there will be no mallet-based carnage for those of us who had the game on our radars, and have thrown it on the trashpile, which shouldn’t be a surprise given the rumors and the delays. With games like Disaster: Day of Crisis and Sadness looking increasingly like vaporware with each passing, silent day, I wonder now if the Wii will ever seriously provide something completely fresh and original like Nintendo once promised. I gave up hope for the system as a serious games platform long ago, but it still gets me in my soul when I hear about the premature death of a potentially decent title
