Pokemon fans have something to look forward to, as the next Pokemon Presents is coming our way on February 27, just a few days after the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
You can watch the event at 06:00 AM PST on the official Pokemon YouTube channel (which I recommend keeping an eye on for all Pokemon-related news whether it be for the video games or TCG). The event is being held to celebrate Pokemon Day which commemorates the launch of the first games in Japan in 1996. Hence, it’s not unusual for the franchise to have a Pokemon Presents come our way on this date.
What to expect
There have been rumors circulating regarding a potential Pokemon Presents and the new titles it might announce. However, we have no official information on what to expect just yet.
In terms of new games to announce, there are a few directions the franchise could go. It could give us another set of Let’s Go games featuring Johto favorites, or it could announce remakes of Black and White, which are part of the next generation of Pokemon games that haven’t been brought to the modern era.
If Pokemon hopes to release new titles, there may not be much time left if they’re geared toward the Nintendo Switch, as it has been predicted that the next Nintendo console will arrive in Q1 2025.
Personally, I’m hoping for a new Pokemon Arceus game, as the change in gameplay rejuvenated my fatigued interest in the franchise. Of course, we may not be getting any new games at all and instead new content for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Pokemon Go, Pokemon Unite, or the trading card game.
Past Pokemon Presents for Pokemon Day have been rather lackluster. Last year, the Classic set of TCG cards was revealed, as well as an animated Netflix series called Pokemon Concierge which I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend at the drop of a hat thanks to its fresh take on the franchise and adorable animation style.
In short, if you’re a Pokemon fan, keep an eye out for the event but don’t overinflate your expectations lest you find yourself disappointed.
