CES: Killzone 3 in 3D, with the Move Sharp Shooter gun

Earlier today I jumped right into a situation that was so CES it wasn’t even funny: 3D glasses, HD gaming and motion sensing technology, all in one presentation. It was Killzone 3 in 3D, controlled with the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter gun.

I was one in a long line of people to get their ass handed to them in the CES floor demo Sony had set up, but I was surprised at how responsive the camera moved with the movement of the gun. It basically moves the camera to where you point, and there are some fine tuning options in the menus if you aren’t feeling it as much as I was. I expected for it to be disorienting, but I had no trouble picking off a few enemies before they mowed me down. Aside from the aiming, I could also hit the bottom of the gun to reload. Or tilt it to the side to reload. Also, thrusting the gun forward did a melee attack.

The gun itself is pretty nice, though it feels a bit large for my tastes. The Move controller mounts on the top-front while the Navigation controller mounts just under it, letting you control movement with your thumb. There are a few controls on the gun itself, like some of the face buttons and a trigger lock. This particular gun had some Killzone markings on it. Sony told me that games could be packaged with stickers that you stick on the gun.
