At Gamescom Latam, Gixer Entertainment announced Changer Seven, a Brazilian hack-and-slash take on Super Sentai. It’s currently planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
Changer Seven is a Devil May Cry-style hack-and-slash, which I think is what they call “character action” games. It centers around the eponymous seven Sentai heroes as they defend Brazil from a series of villain-of-the-week monsters. Beneath that is a larger plot, and the heroes also need to balance their interpersonal relationships.
I’m not sure if the interpersonal relationships are a part of the gameplay or just the narrative. There’s maybe some love triangle looking stuff going on there, but I was reading a romance novel last night, so I might just be projecting. Maybe they’re just good friends.
The combat hook here is a tag-team system. It’s a single-player game, and you can pick your changer, but you also summon other changers to get in some licks. I think it looks pretty good. There’s stun-locking and air juggling. I’ve played a few similar games recently that have felt like all particle effects and no impact, and the trailer suggests Changer Seven doesn’t have the problem. That can be difficult to really tell exclusively from video, however.
I also want to point out that we’ve only seen four changes: yellow, red, blue, and pink. The tease. Maybe they’ll throw a curveball and the rest of the colors will be khaki, beige, and tan.
Changer Seven is slated to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime in 2025.
