Split-screen gaming is going the way of the Dodo, which is a bird that is now extinct (Why did I feel the need to explain that?) Split-screen co-op is even rarer, and yet playing a game with a good friend right next to you instead of on the other side of the country is one of the best experiences in gaming. If you’re sad to see this once proud standard of the gaming industry slowly die you’ll be happy to hear that the producers of Lost Planet 2 are doing all that they can to bring split-screen co-op to the game.
Speaking with Joystiq producer Jun Takeuchi said, “We are actually working on two-player split-screen. It’s not easy, but if we are confident that we can do it, we’ll let you know.” After being asked if the split-screen would work like RE5‘s did, and if figuring out how it would work visually was the issue Takeuchi replied that it wasn’t the aspect ratio that was the problem, but technical difficulties. “Technically, cycling between two split screens, you can actually say it took visual RAM,” he said. “You still have to work with two sets of AI and physics and so forth at the same time,” he said.
Step one will be to get this into the game, and that’s entirely up to them. Step two will be to find a friend, and that’s all up to you, but we can help a little.
