‘The grueling battle ended with the victory of Heihachi’
Nao Higo, the localization producer for Soulcalibur II, stopped by the 8-4 Play podcast and one of the more interesting topics he brought to discuss was the Soulcalibur guest character that almost was.
According to Higo, before Tekken‘s Heihachi joined the fight, Final Fantasy VII protagonist Cloud Strife was in talks to do battle with Nightmare.

Hugo talks about Soulcalibur II about an hour and twenty-three minutes into the most recent 8-4 Play podcast. “The deal fell through on that one – it was supposed to be someone else. I think it’s been long enough. So, apparently, they were working out a deal with Cloud. It would have been incredible, [but] at the last minute it got canned.”
While Heihachi punching the shit out of the Soulcalibur cast is cool, I feel like everyone’s favorite identity thief would’ve been a better fit. It’s a shame we’ll never get to see how many lizardmen Cloud’s Buster Sword could take out.
