Up first: The protagonist
After playing a game, do you ever look up the voice cast and trace their history only to learn that, “Oh whoa, he also played that guy? And he was in that show? What the?!” (Semi-related: I’m still not over the fact that Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was also TMNT‘s Shredder.)
Atlus has come out with the English voice cast for next year’s Persona 5, and I’ll save you the trouble with a Fun Fact regarding “the protagonist,” who is played by Xander Mobus. Amazingly, he was also the announcer in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and voiced both Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Do what you will with that information. It might just save your life one day.
In the mean time, you can get to know Mobus a little better with this interview clip.
As for the rest of the cast, here’s the list:
- Cassandra Morris as Morgana
- Max Mittelman as Ryuji Sakamoto
- Erika Harlacher as Ann Takamaki
- Matt Mercer as Yusuke Kitagawa
- Cherami Leigh as Makoto Niijima
- Erica Lindbeck as Futaba Sakura
- Xanthe Huynh as Haru Okumura
- Robbie Daymond as Goro Akechi
“This is a completely new cast of characters, so we started with a blank slate in bringing life to them with our stellar cast of voice actors,” says project lead and recording supervisor Yu Namba. “It’s hard saying goodbye to the cast of previous Persona games, but we hope to bring an entirely new tone with a new set of actors for this game.”
That first video is of course meant to be audio-centric, but as ever, I find myself most captivated by Persona 5‘s flashy aesthetic and graphical elements (and also that slick-as-hell logo animation at the end). Love the way that stuff is incorporated in the game itself as damage pop-ups and the like.
