So what’s your New Years Resolution? Lose 20 pounds? Learn a foreign language? Find your significant other? Good luck with that. In all likelihood, you will probably derail two weeks in. Coincidentally, that coincides with MAGFest, so stop being a stick in the mud and come hang out with all of Destructoid — or at least Dale North, Colette Bennett, myself and a massive army of awesome community members.
MAGFest (short for Music and Games Festival) is a celebration of all things videogames. Where it shines, though, is its emphasis on music. Not only are there awesomely awesome bands (The Minibosses, The Protomen, and The OneUps to name a few), but a chiptunes showcase that lasts all night long, as well as a dedicated Jamspace where you can pick up an instrument and rock until your face melts off.
“Music and games are fine, but why should I schlep all the way out to Alexandria? I can just do that at home.” Answers follow.
Well, I suppose you could be lame and do all those things at home, but you will also miss out on the chance to meet Jon St. John, voice actor for Duke Nukem, or Scott Ransoomair, creator of VGCats. You will also miss out on meeting your fellow Dtoiders and Dtoid alum, including Anthony & Ashly Burch and Ashley Davis (Hey Ash Whatcha Playin and Once Upon A Pixel), as well as Topher Cantler (The Journalism Show). Really, you should just let them convince you why you should come to MAGfest by watching the video above.
More importantly you’ll miss out on one of the biggest Destructoid community events outside of PAX. Seriously, the list of awesome Dtoiders coming is epic and if you aren’t there then you won’t get all the inside jokes we’ll all tell. Think about it. Inside jokes are what make the internet work and you won’t understand any of them!
MAGFest is held at the Mark Center Hilton in Alexandria, VA (where you won’t be raped) from January 13-16. All information can be found at http://magfest.org. Passes are in short supply, so order yours soon at magfest.org. If you already got a pass but want to find out what’s going on with Dtoiders, join our google group at http://groups.google.com/group/dtoid-magfest-2011.
You will not regret it.
