Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has written an open letter to the studio’s modding community. In it, he divulges the plan to release an editor for Crysis 2 this summer. Beyond that, a free CryENGINE software development kit is expected to go public in August.
He stresses how this SDK will be “a complete version of our engine,” with C++ code access, content exporters (including LiveCreate real-time pipeline), shader code, game sample code from Crysis 2, script samples, improved Flowgraph, and asset examples. Nice on you, Crytek.
If you count the time I spent watching and rewatching the video above, this is the longest it’s taken me to write a post in months. Probably shouldn’t be okay with that fact, but oh well. So worth it.
