The Pig is an incredibly versatile Killer in Dead by Daylight. She can crouch and pounce at Survivors, plus use the Saw franchise’s iconic Reverse Bear Traps to force them out of hiding in search of keys to remove her torturous devices. However, the lengthy timer on these traps has been somewhat of a sore spot for Killer mains—that is, until now as Survivors will have far less time to escape their fate.
Today, Behaviour Interactive released its Developer Update preview for the upcoming All Things Wicked Chapter in Dead by Daylight. While these are still subject to change, the notes for the new Killer, Survivor, and map are likely to change before they launch on March 12. The biggest news from these patch notes isn’t related to that Chapter, though. It’s all about how The Pig’s ability is becoming more lethal.
Why The Pig’s Reverse Bear Trap timer reduction is being reduced
Hidden among the All Things Wicked Chapter Developer Update notes is a section titled “[REVERTED] Decreased Reverse Bear Traps base time to 150 seconds (was 180 during PTB).” This means a change to The Pig’s Reverse Bear Trap timer is being removed, lowering it to 150 seconds once again.
Behaviour Interactive explained its reasoning, noting, “We wanted to shift some power away from The Pig’s Reverse Bear Traps and into her stealth & Ambush abilities to make her more fun and interactive to play. Many felt that this change was too significant during the PTB, so we have reverted it for the update’s release. We’ll be keeping a close eye on her performance once this update goes live and re-evaluate if this change is needed at a later date.”
To the community, this is sweet, sweet music to their ears. A post on the Dead by Daylight Subreddit has garnered hundreds of responses of sheer joy because the change makes The Pig a lot less fun to play as. Speaking from experience, the best part of playing as The Pig is being able to not only Hook a Survivor but also give them a handicap so that once they’re unhooked, you’re still making their life a misery.
Once the timer on the Reverse Bear Trap ends, the Survivor will be killed. To remove it, Survivors must find Jigsaw boxes and interact with them, but that takes time away from generators and forces them into the open. This makes getting kills and Moris so much easier as the Killer.
Even though it’s only 30 seconds, a lot can be achieved in that time. It removes the incentive for Survivors to get rid of the trap and instead remain focused on a generator. The Pig’s stealth attack simply isn’t powerful enough to make it a Killer worth playing without that 150-second timer on the Reverse Bear Trap.
Players are already getting ready to dive into the next update not as The Unknown, but as The Pig. User ANewPrometheus pointed out, “March 12th is when the Update comes live. So about 5 days from now. In less than a week, Pig will potentially be High C-Tier rather than Bottom C-Tier. Absolutely phenomenal.”
It certainly says a lot about a Killer that the fan base is more excited about a legacy character than the latest one being added. I’ve got hundreds of hours in Dead by Daylight and am incredibly excited about what The Unknown brings to the table. I can’t deny that I’m also looking forward to playing around with The Pig much more from March 12 as well, though.
