Today, during the Dead by Daylight 8th Anniversary livestream, Behaviour Interactive handed the floor over to developer Midwinter Entertainment to discuss its upcoming shared world shooter set in the same horrific world.
Currently codenamed Project T and still very early in development, this third-person shooter takes players into the otherworldly Dead by Daylight fog and forces them to survive and thrive against the terrifying monsters that emerge from it. It’s a very different game for the franchise, but one Midwinter Entertainment wants to take the same approach with, developing it alongside the community based on their feedback and interactions.
Project T playtest pushes playtest sign ups live
Midwinter Entertainment offered a brief explanation of what Project T is, but you can see yourself in its upcoming playtests. All you need to do is sign up for the Insider Program, and you’ll receive emails about upcoming events as and when they’re planned. Initially, the playtest is only for PC, but will expand to consoles in the future.
The Dead by Daylight spin-off is still in early development, but I’m mostly just itching to get in for for exclusive rewards being offered for playtesters. Gotta be lookin’ good and ready when DbD celebrates its eighth anniversary.
Not a survivor or a Killer, but a secret third thing
In Project T, players aren’t Survivors or Killers; they’re Trespassers. It’s a new role to the universe. They’re individuals who have also been whisked away from their reality by The Entity into its domain, where it hopes to extract even more fear from them.
Trespassers will find themselves in a realm called The Backwater, a sort of dark, overgrown swamp. They must work together and fight back against the monsters, known as The Thrall, that emerge from the fallen trees, sticky bogs, and feral overgrowth using whatever they have to hand. Thankfully, and perhaps surprisingly to Dead by Daylight fans, the main tools at a Trespasser’s disposal are guns.
The goal of each match is for Trespassers to complete objectives as they move through The Backwater and kill any Thrall that tries to stop them. The Backwater changes over time, though, meaning every match you play will look and feel different. There are trucks to help traverse, and while driving between objectives is one use for these vehicles, Midwinter Entertainment hinted they might be useful for completing those objectives as well.
During a press preview, Midwinter Entertainment was asked about character crossovers with Dead by Daylight. The studio did not confirm what crossovers would look like, but did mention there will be a lot of crossover between Project T and Dead by Daylight. All I’ve been able to imagine since is a battle-hardened version of Dwight Fairfield with a shotgun and using his tie as a bandana.
