We’ll allegedly see it ‘…if we’re not dead first’
[Update: According to info obtained by Gematsu, EA Motive’s new title is indeed a new Dead Space game, though it is believed to be a “reimagining” rather than a straight sequel.]
A whisper is doing the rounds that long-time publisher Electronic Arts is getting set to bring back a stagnant and “established” IP at its EA Play Live event. That’s the word on the street according to GamesBeat writer and frequent spoiler Jeff Grubb, who lit the rumor’s touchpaper during a recent video stream.
The new title is supposedly in the works at studio EA Motive, with Grubb noting that fans will be happy with the “big deal” reveal, even going as far as to tease “We’re going to see it… if we’re not dead first” — an odd and clunky statement to make and thus has taken by the internet as a not-so-subtle hint that the rumored IP is sci-fi horror series Dead Space.
Of course, Dead Space developer Visceral Games is one of many studios left by the wayside during EA’s ongoing march to dominance, with the final title in the scary series being 2013’s Dead Space 3. EA Motive is most recently known for its connection to the Star Wars franchise, having developed the solid Star Wars: Squadrons title. Grubb’s statement remains both a rumor and obscure, and while Grubb has proven themselves a very reliable source on many occasions, it’s still perhaps best that Dead Space aficionados keep their expectations in check, at least until said reveal is confirmed.
The EA Play Live event will take place on July 22.
