Destiny 2 is a game that’s in production and will launch in the relatively-near future. That’s important news because Destiny has been one of the biggest names in gaming for the past three years. Here’s the simple but sweet tweet where the plans are confirmed:

Also though, it’s not really news at all. Activision has been telling investors for more than a year now that this was going to happen. The first instance was in February 2016. Last month, there was another mention of a “full Destiny sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchise’s global reach, which along with follow-on content plans.” This is far from a surprise.
But, this is the first time we’re given a fancy graphic and it’s the first time these intentions have been spoken somewhere as public as Twitter. That counts for something.
We’ve had an inkling in recent days that something was imminent. There was that Italian retailer leak that looked mighty official. And, Destiny‘s Age of Triumph event begins tomorrow and developer Bungie is making a big to-do about how this is the last it has planned for the original game. Out with the old, in with the new.
