Even though it’s most definitely not going to be an expansion-sized (or even season-pass-sized, at that) release, Destiny 2: Into the Light is quite interesting. For Black Armory fans, in particular, there may be good stuff here, as the latest announcement from Bungie is more revealing than we thought.
For quite a long while now, the Destiny 2 community has been asking Bungie to reissue the highly acclaimed Black Armory weapons, as the full repertoire got caught up in the game’s big sunsetting of content. Now, at long last, we’re finally getting the sense that things are happening on that front, as we now have not one but two separate sources suggesting Black Armory gear is going to be back on the menu in this or that form. Even more importantly, both of these sources come from Bungie itself. How about that!
Bungie may be reissuing certain Black Armory weapons as part of Destiny 2: Into the Light
More specifically, the fact that Destiny 2‘s API leaked a large batch of Into the Light gear has gone mostly under the radar. One of the weapons featured in that “leak” was none other than the Hammerhead MG, a particularly potent piece of Black Armory kit. That, however, could very well have been a mere outlier had Bungie not underlined the idea with the recent Into the Light key art.
In it, we see an extremely interesting scene of a fireteam of Guardians fending off a veritable horde of Hive forces within City walls, with what may or may not be a fully renovated old Tower in the background. Further, the Guardians are all equipped with ornamental class armor, and they all hold reskinned versions of fan-favorite weapons from Destiny‘s past.
The Titan is wielding a sword with the Falling Guillotine model, the Hunter has the unmistakable revision of the Midnight Coup Leviathan hand cannon, and the Warlock’s weapon appears to be a shotgun of some sort at a glance. However, if you look more closely, you’ll notice the distinctive silhouette of the quad-burst Blast Furnace pulse rifle from Black Armory. It, too, is reskinned and has no optics mounted on the rail, but that’s the weapon in question. The confusion on whether that’s a shotgun or a pulse rifle stemmed from the magwell and bull-pup magazine being hidden behind the Warlock’s elbow, but zooming in reveals that this is, indeed, the Blast Furnace model.
What does this mean, in practice? It highly suggests that at least some of Black Armory’s weapons are finally set to make a return, even if through mere re-skinning and model reuse. Unless, of course, Bungie makes a repeat of one of its strangest Lightfall flounders, wherein the DLC’s key art featured weapons that didn’t make it into the game at all.
