There are two huge events for every Destiny 2 expansion. The first is the expansion’s actual release, which is when players worldwide all pile into the game and try to blast through the story as fast as possible. The second is the release of the expansion’s Raid, which sees a Race for World First among streamers and their clans who all want to claim first place and a winner’s jacket.

The reason the Raid for Destiny 2: The Final Shape is releasing a lot sooner than previous Raids have with their expansions is because of what the final boss is. The Witness, the biggest baddie in Destiny 2 history, is the final boss of this expansion’s Raid.

Usually, a Raid for an expansion is released roughly ten days after the expansion. This gives players enough time to work through the story content at their own pace, see the finale, and then hit the hardest content in the game with the best gear possible.

In The Final Shape, Bungie is giving players a conclusion to the Destiny 2 story as soon as possible. After all, it’s been over ten years, and most of us are eager to see what The Witness has been after all this time and why we’ve had to fight through so many enemies to get to this point.

Plus, Raids always have the possibility of opening up something new for Guardians. A few Raids in the game’s past have unlocked new areas, missions, and activities in Destiny 2 once the first team in the world has completed them. Deep Stone Crypt is a great example, because it opened a new mission and variant activity on Europa.
