Development on new BioWare IP Shadow Realms ceased

It will fade into the darkness

Shadow Realms had a very cool idea going for it. The tabletop RPG-inspired, four versus one gameplay reminded me of board games like Descent or Level 7 [Omega Protocol]. The modern fantasy setting seemed like a nice break from the typical medieval environment. The BioWare pedigree got my hopes up for something great. Alas, it was not meant to be.

Its fate seemed shaky last month, with some sources suggesting that it would be canceled while others said it was being rebooted. Now, the ambiguity is gone. In a blog post on ShadowRealms.com, BioWare Austin General Manager Jeff Hickman announced that the team “would not move forward with development” on the title.

Not all is lost for BioWare fans. The team that was working on Shadow Realms is set to continue working on other RPG staples, like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Still, it’s a bummer for those who were looking forward to something new.
