Blizzard Entertainment promised some big changes to Diablo 4 with its fourth season; ones that would affect the entire game, such as its Tempering System and Masterworking. While the season lacks any new mechanics, it appears focusing on revamping the core game has paid off since players’ early impressions of season 4 are very positive.
Season 4 began less than 24 hours ago, and there’s already plenty of praise to be found over on the Diablo 4 subreddit. At the time of writing, the top thread is simply labelled “Diablo 4 is so much better now,” with user bluephantasm1 admitting they hadn’t played the game in almost eight months, but it’s become “hardly recognizable and I am having a lot more fun. Devs have done a good job cleaning the game up over the months.”
At the time of writing, their comment has received 1,200 upvotes, with additional comments from other players complimenting the changes and how they’ve simply made Diablo 4 more fun to play. Common talking points are how much quicker it is to level up your character, meaning you’re less likely to burn out while grinding, and the improvements to item/Aspect management, since all Aspects now exist within the Codex of Power.
A separate thread thanks Blizzard for the “best season start so far,” while another calls the new Helltide boss “amazing.” One player is just happy how they and their wife are “straight bossing mountains of enemies” this season. All in all, it’s a good time to be a Diablo 4 player and, if you ever dropped off, it sounds like it’s well worth jumping back in.
While the developers at Blizzard are bound to be thrilled with the warm reception, it now has to maintain this momentum. After all, season 4 has only just begun so the honeymoon period could wear off sooner rather than later. Even if player reception stays positive all the way through, future seasons need to keep them happy and engaged. Otherwise, they’ll just stop playing. Hopefully, with this season bringing a much needed overhaul to Diablo 4, the team can prioritize entirely new mechanics and content updates for season 5 and beyond.
