If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that yer boy Moyse has been keeping his eye on Nexon’s incoming fighting game, DNF Duel. Despite releasing several character trailers, the new title has been shrouded in mystery when it comes to platforms, release date, and other important info. Well, we have some info today… and it’s a doozy.

Nexon has announced an open beta for the new slugfest, set within the world of popular MMO Dungeon Fighter Online. PS4 and PS5 players will be able to step into the ring with the new fighter this coming weekend, with the action set to kick off between Friday, December 17, and Monday, December 20. Just download the client, be in possession of a PlayStation Plus account, and you’re ready to rumble. The beta will be open to players in all global territories, so that’s neat.

In addition to this exciting news, Nexon released a trailer for its latest character, Hitman. Looking just as hot as the rest of the DNF Duel gang, our stoic assassin combines blazing gunplay with air-slicing swordsmanship to present threats from both long-distance and when up-close-and-personal. Hitman’s super sees him subdue his opponent with a flurry of sword-swipes, before going all Chow Yun-Fat with a double dose of automatic firepower. He broke my damn TV screen, too.

DNF Duel looks very interesting, though one can’t help but wonder how it will carve itself out a niche within the crowded fighting game market. With Arc System Works and Eighting under-its-hood, odds are good it will be a fine fighter, but its unproven IP could find its punching up against the Tekkens and even the Guilty Gears of this world. Regardless, we can check out the action for ourselves thanks to the DNF Duel beta this weekend. I’ll definitely be there, how about you?

DNF Duel is in development for PlayStation and PC platforms.
