Enshrouded is a hefting game, regularly asking you switch gears between building bases and fighting through dangerous dungeons. There have been plenty of times when I’ve felt the urge to change up my control scheme depending on the task — sometimes that means M+KB, sometimes that means a controller.
Luckily, the PC version of Enshrouded does have controller support. I’ve used Xbox controllers and an old DualShock 4 that I keep handy, and with both options, it was as easy as connecting the controller to my PC and booting up the game. Switching back and forth between my controller and my keyboard and mouse setup was seamless. Extra great, since I can never commit to one option over the other.
An added bonus — we’ve got options
I was also thrilled to see Enshrouded also offers an option for you to change what buttons appear over in game prompts. Under “Controls” in the settings menu, you can adjust the prompts to match an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo controller. That’s something I’d love to see more games on PC adopt.
Controller settings include a few preset options, with more customization there if you want to create more specific, tailored bindings or just go with another premade setup.
Enshrouded was one of our most anticipated games of January 2024, and considering it’s built for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC, it’s not all that surprising that it plays great with a controller. While it’s a Steam Early Access title at launch, that won’t always be the case.
The more I experimented, the more I came to enjoy the feel of the game’s combat on a controller. At the same time, even though building is definitely possible either way, I preferred to switch back to my keyboard and mouse when I was really digging into my home improvement plans. The good news is that no matter what your preference is, Enshrouded gives you all the options you need.
