Much like its liberty-loving predecessor, Helldivers 2 puts you in a squad of tough-talking, gun-toting soldiers cutting a swath through alien insects — all for the glory of humanity. But what happens when bugs aren’t enough? Is there a PvP mode to play in Helldivers 2?
Sadly, Helldivers 2 doesn’t include a PvP mode. So, for those who believe man to be the greatest animal worth hunting (I see you, Kraven), you’re out of luck; Helldivers 2 isn’t that kind of game.
Will Helldivers 2 get a PvP mode?
As for what awaits Helldivers 2, it’s unlikely that the game will get a PvP mode anytime soon. Much like the original, Helldivers 2 is strictly a PvE experience where you play as human fodder to be thrown against the tide of alien bugs called Terminids. This is war: Not against your fellow man, but against extraterrestrial insects that threaten life, liberty, and all that. You fight for the glory of Super Earth, and that takes teamwork, baby.
If you haven’t heard, Helldivers 2 works on a Starship Troopers-level of satire. In the original game, you fought as the “last line of offense” for Super Earth, which was hell-bent on glory fueled by a manifest destiny of a galactic scale. Helldivers 2 is similar in suit, and also emphasizes co-op gameplay for up to four players. You and your team are set to wipe out an area of hostile bugs, or get wiped out yourselves.
But that doesn’t exactly mean you can’t fight your teammates regardless. Friendly fire is turned off, but mostly as a way to tempt a snafu. Of course, you can be that guy, but that’s just what the bugs want.
What content is coming?
According to the developer, the team plans to roll out free content updates soon after the game’s launch. There’s no mention of new modes, however, so I doubt PvP is on the docket.
“The universe of HELLDIVERS 2 will grow and change to give our players refreshed gameplay, introducing new tools, new challenges, and new threats from around the galaxy,” the team wrote in a release.
One of those new tools the team mentioned is the Mech suit. That’ll be fun.
