Palworld, the lovingly dubbed “Pokémon with guns” game, is launching into early access on January 19 for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. It’ll be fully online with servers that can handle up to 32 players at once. But is Palworld cross-platform or does it include crossplay?
According to developer Pocketpair, Palworld will enter early access with more than 100 monsters to catch across its open-world environment. Naturally, being able to catch said mons and keep your progress across multiple platforms sounds like a treat. Unfortunately, you’ll have to do without such a beloved feature (maybe just for now).
Palworld crossplay will arrive someday, but cross-platform play is unknown
Palworld won’t include crossplay while in early access. But, as noted by the developer’s early access launch FAQ, the game will get the feature eventually. The developer writes that it is working on a crossplay mode for Xbox and Steam users, and it’ll be available “as soon as possible.”
Naturally, getting the game polished and content-rich is the goal of most games in early access. Fun , supplemental features like crossplay typically aren’t always so high on the to-do list. Cross-platform play isn’t mentioned in the FAQ, so it’s safe to assume it won’t be available, either. Its omission also makes me think that if it does get included, it won’t be for a long while.
Here’s what the game will include once it launches into early access:
- More than 100 monsters to catch
- Over 250 items
- More than 70 types of buildings
- Monster battles
- Online co-op mode for up to four players
- Dedicated server support for up to 32 players in multiplayer
