Predecessor saw a huge influx of players when its closed beta hit PlayStation in late 2023. Following that success, the game was announced for Xbox, meaning it would be available for all major platforms. The biggest question on every fan’s mind, of course, is whether or not it will have crossplay so they can link up with friends regardless of what they play on.

Yes, Predecessor supports crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. This was confirmed just ahead of the game’s Open Beta release in March 2023. Alongside the announcement was confirmation of a long-requested Ranked Mode and a new game mode for matches to open up the variation in everyone’s play time.
This means that friends can add each other using their in-game usernames and link up together for matches. While there will definitely be some differences between the graphical quality and controls across all versions, developer Omeda Studios believes the game is in a good enough spot that no platform will have an advantage over the others.
Unlike Paragon, the game Predecessor is based on, and Paragon: The Overprime, the fan remake that was shut down in 2023, this game has original and classic heroes. Its player base has grown every year thanks to continued community support, so it stands a good chance of lasting for many years to come.
Does Predecessor have cross-platform progression?
At the time of writing, Predecessor doesn’t support cross-platform progression because it’s still in beta. As per the game’s PlayStation beta FAQ, a master account linking system will eventually be released. This will allow players to choose one account, bet it on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, and use it as their master account.
All progress from that account will be applied to every platform, meaning all progress from the other accounts will be lost. My advice is to pick a platform now and stick with it. For example, I’ve been playing on PS5 since the Closed Beta and won’t be picking up Xbox until the master account linking feature has been released. Then, I’ll play wherever is easiest.
When does the Predecessor Open Beta release?
The Predecessor Open Beta launches on March 28, 2024. This will bring the game to many more players, including everyone who wants to try it out on Xbox. While it’s not exclusive to the platform, this could be a decent alternative for those Xbox fans who feel like they’re missing out on the fun in Helldivers 2 and want something to sink their teeth into.
