Tears of the Kingdom is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious games ever. It’s the culmination of everything Nintendo has learned with the series, letting players loose to figure out their way through Hyrule on their terms as they complete their journey and find Princess Zelda. Though, once the main quest is complete, can you start again with everything you’ve acquired throughout your journey? Does Tears of the Kingdom have a New Game Plus option?

Does Tears of the Kingdom have New Game Plus?

To cut to the chase, Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t include an option to begin a new file with all your upgrades. Continuing after beating the game will place you at your save before your final fight with Ganondorf. With every item being easily obtainable and weapons having durability, the only thing that would transfer over from a completed save would be your Zonai Battery Charge. While it would be helpful to start a second go with a full charge, it’s not enough to constitute the addition.

It’s unlikely that Nintendo would include this option in a post-launch update. However, depending on how far you progressed through the adventure before defeating Ganon, there are still plenty of sidequests to unlock, and collectibles to find. You could also complete the Compendium to reap its rewards.

It could be argued that there is no such need for a New Game Plus option. It’s speculated that any post-launch content could take place during the adventure. Such as Breath of the Wild‘s Master Trials and Champion’s Ballad DLC.

However, only time will tell, as any DLC plans haven’t been revealed. Perhaps in time, something new could emerge. As of right now, consider the outlook on New Game Plus to be not so good.
