Donkey Kong Country Returns… again for Nintendo Switch

This is the second time it’s been ported.

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong

Remember when Nintendo brought Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to the Switch? Well, now its predecessor, Donkey Kong Country Returns, is making the leap as well in early 2025.

Originally released in 2010, this marks the second time Donkey Kong Country Returns has seen a port, since Nintendo put it on the Nintendo 3DS as well in 2013. This Switch version seems to be a simple HD port of the original Wii game, but it will include the extra levels from the 3DS version as well.

Aside from that, it doesn’t appear to boast any wholly new features or content. Couch co-op is obviously still included, letting two players control DK and Diddy as they embark on a quest to get their bananas back from the Tiki Tak Tribe. No mention of online co-op though.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is scheduled to launch on January 16, 2025.
