And the coat you rode in on…
We all love Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Android 21, right? Of course we do, she’s a lovely bundle of cake-chomping fun. But the Fun Has Lessened in recent times, ever since the arrival of the monstrous variant Android 21 (Lab Coat). Since the bespectacled babe sashayed onto the roster, our sexy scientist has been causing many, many headaches among the DBFZ community.
In what seems to be a recent trend for fighting games, Android 21 (Lab Coat) is one helluva challenge to overcome. While the anti-hero already comes stacked with an array of hard-hitting maneuvers with slick start-ups, one of the key issues appears to be her brutal command grab, which both buffs her own damage by around 20% while nerfing her opponent’s Super Move by the same amount… for the entire duration of the fight.
While many DBFZ players have scoffed at the idea that the new character is “breaking the game,” the fact remains that Android 21 (Lab Coat) has found her way into an abundance of both competitive teams and online matches. Yer Gurl has been a constant — necessary — pick at tourneys since her arrival, with some players openly stating that DBFZ is “the worst it has ever been” since her arrival. While DBFZ has done an amazing job at staying relevant over its long five-year lifespan, the tag-fighter is currently down on entrants for the upcoming EVO 2022, with some fans pointing to Android 21’s inevitable dominance as a key reason to stay away from the bracket.
But, there may be change on the horizon. Developer Arc System Works and publisher Bandai Namco have announced that there is an update headed to DBFZ in the near future. While details are slim and there is no official drop date as of this writing, the developers have confirmed that Android 21 (Lab Coat) is of key focus in this update… So it seems that perhaps her reign of terror may be coming to an end.
Let’s hope so, as DBFZ has had a fantastic run, long outliving better-known fighters. It would be a shame to see this incredible fighting game sunset in a sea of disappointed fans.
