Dtoid HQ receives a cute & possibly viral Pokemon letter

Destructoid received a letter from someone yesterday that is either a real letter from a little kid or some viral marketing ploy. The letter is addressed to the Pokemon Institute and includes some custom created Pokemon cards. The letter reads:

Dear Pokemon institute,

My friend Rickey and I have made some new Pokemon. We hope they make it to the show before the next season so it can be on that season of Pokemon. There names are Quigon and Trigon. Quigon and Trigon are Pokemon like Burmy. They have four forms: Quigon: blue, red, yellow and green. Trigon: blue, red, yellow and green. If Quigon gets hit by a dark ball it will turn into Quigon black same as Trigon. You need a special potion to cure Quigon or Trigon before they turn completely black.

Attached in a little bag were nine custom Pokemon cards based on what the sender described (check it out in the gallery below.)

It’s really cute and all, but these days I just don’t trust the mail anymore. A couple of things just don’t add up. For one, the sender of the letter never wrote his name on the envelope or the letter itself. You’d think a kid would put his name down so he can get the credit, right? The cards we got were also laminated, something a kid wouldn’t have easy access to.

We did contact Nintendo PR about the letter and they didn’t know what this was about. Plus, Nintendo never does viral ads. Granted, this could be a Wizards of the Coast whoever is making the cards now viral …

Innocent letter? Viral marketing? Whatever the case, this whole thing is a nice little breather from the E3 chaos.
