At the 2012 Game Developers Conference, publisher Devolver Digital had independent game designers pitch their ideas on a bus. For some strange reason, they let us aboard. More understandably, however, they picked up a promising-looking puzzle/role-playing game called Dungeon Hearts.
Coming to PC, Mac, and mobile devices next year from Cube Roots, Dungeon Hearts combines match-three gameplay with heavy inspiration from classic Japanese RPGs. These images are fairly self-explanatory, but this early video should help you along if your imagination isn’t getting the job done.
Looks to me like the folks at Devolver made a wise decision. This seems like exactly the type of thing that could get really popular on the App Store.
“The original pitch was for Dungeon Hearts to be medieval brothel simulator,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “I recommended we shift development towards the puzzle/RPG hybrid because medieval brothel simulators just don’t sell anymore.”
