E3 10: New Prof. Layton game dated for September 20th

Puzzle fans rejoice! The next installment in the Professor Layton series, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, will be coming out for the DS on September 20th of this year. (There’s also a separate Layton game, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miraclein development for the 3DS.) If you somehow aren’t familiar with one of the best series on the DS, the Professor Layton games have you solving a variety of puzzles, riddles, and logic games while trying to figure out a much bigger mystery.

In Unwound Future, Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke set off on a new investigation after they get a strange letter — it’s from Luke, and it’s from ten years in the future. Future Luke warns that London is in serious trouble, so the puzzle-solving duo head out to find out just what exactly is going on.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future will feature 165 new puzzles, with weekly puzzles being added through Nintendo’s download service. If you who tried the previous Layton game and found them to be too difficult, you may want to give Unwound Future a try — in addition to the three standard (and usually not very helpful) hints you can get for each individual puzzle, Unwound Future is adding a ‘superhint’ option if you are really and truly stumped. It won’t solve the puzzle for you, but it should help point you in the right direction.
