Somehow, the IOC lets Mario, Sonic, and their friends skip the qualifiers for the Olympics every two years. So once again, Sega is developing an Olympic sports minigame collection whose mascot crossover might have been cool if the year were 1991, not 2011. You’ll probably get sick of the games in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games before you can finish saying the title out loud, but then again, maybe the allure of a new platform — this time, the game will launch on 3DS as well as Wii — will be enough for you.
Take a look at the game’s CG debut trailer above. Mario and Sonic can now compete in Soccer and Equestrian events, in addition to Olympic mainstays like Aquatics and Table Tennis. And look at Peach twirl that ribbon!
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be out for Wii in November 2011, and 3DS in February 2012, so by the time the actual London 2012 Olympics roll around next July, you will have run Mario and Sonic ragged.
