A Snoop Dogg level in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the strangest thing ever. I mean, how does that even happen? When you think “King of the Iron First,” does your mind immediately go to “La dah dah dah dah, it’s the motherf*ckin’ D-O-Double-G”? I didn’t think so.
Still, it’s one hell of a novelty. His level is so bizarre — he sits atop his purple throne like a king surrounded by his handmaidens as a carousel of hydraulic cars circle the arena. With all this flair, I’m disappointed that Snoop isn’t actually a playable character.
But anyway, about the game…
It’s been well over a decade since the last Tekken Tag Tournament, and the time is ripe for a brand new party fighter. You’ve got all the characters from Tekken 6 plus the return of Kunimitsu, Angel, and many other reps who have long been absent.
Just as in the original Tag, you select two fighters to duke it out, but should any one of your fighters get knocked out, the round will end. This time, you can select a single fighter instead of a tag team. When you play with two fighters, the red segment of their health bar will refill only when they are tagged out. With a single fighter, your red bar will constantly regenerate.
There are also tag attacks, in which both team members will gang up on your opponent for an extremely deadly assault. Just press the left punch, right punch, and tag buttons at the same time and watch the anarchy happen.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is just flat out fun, so if you’re jonesing for some party fighting action, you can get your swagger on in September for PS3 and 360. Remember, there is also a Wii U version which will come later and feature exclusive goodies like the Mega Mushroom. That’s nuts.
