Last year, EA Tiburon included co-op online play in Madden for the first time. But the mode was limited to two players on one team, and the implementation left something to be desired. So Tiburon has gone the extra mile yard in Madden NFL 11 — this time around, they’ve expanded the online team play to three players per team, and it sounds like the mode is much better designed.
Each player will choose a particular skill position, and while they’ll stick with it, they’ll be able to switch between the different players there. So if you play as the receiving corps, you can pick any of the wide receivers or tight ends. And on defense, you might choose the linebackers, and you’ll be able to switch between the three or four of them that might be available. Plus, there’s a persistent “perks” system to keep you playing the mode.
For more details, watch the Madden NFL 11 Developers Series video above. Co-op is exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, but Madden NFL 11 will be out on August 10th for PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, PS2, and iPhone. Remember, you’ll need to activate the EA Sports Online Pass for the game in order to use any of its online features.
