We know that sometimes that Electronic Arts gets a bad rap, and some people steadfastly refuse to look twice at their games without a nasty sneer. We here at Destructoid just like to play good games, not blinded by such elitist notions of EA being an evil corporate empire. And EA Black Box’s Skate is one hell of a good game.
But we’re not blind, so it’s not as if we haven’t seen EA trying to milk nickels and dimes out of gamers with their rampant Xbox 360 downloadable content abuse. So first, the good news — Skate will not be getting overpriced, pointless DLC. In fact, EA Black Box Executive Producer Scott Blackwood told Electronic Gaming Monthly that it won’ tbe getting any DLC at all.
“[We’re] not planning any new content for Skate 1 … We didn’t want to go back and ask [people] for more money to get more shoes and shirts,” said EA Black Box Executive Producer Scott Blackwood in an Afterthoughts interview featured in latest issue of EGM. “That’s not how we wanted to enter this market.”
So the bad news? A great game won’t be getting any more content. But honestly, Skate has such great gameplay, and has such a fully realized universe, that besides some new shoes and pointless decks, maybe this is for the best. Besides, even though a sequel hasn’t been announced, this is EA we’re talking about. There’s always Skate 2 … and 3 … and 4 …
