‘There’s #NoRoomForRacism in football’
[Update: Additional emphasis that this kit/stadium theme will not cost anything to download.]
Electronic Arts has revealed a “No Room For Racism” player kit and stadium theme for FIFA 20. The free strip is released in conjunction with the Premier League’s new anti-racism campaign, that was birthed following the abuse that took place during a Euro 2020 qualifier on October 14, which saw England playing away at Bulgaria.
During the match, England players were beset with racist jeers and hand signals from some Bulgarian fans, leading to two play stoppages in the first half. Abandonment of the entire game was in consideration – as England questioned returning for the second half – but the match would be played to its conclusion, with England eventually taking the 6 – 0 victory.
In the aftermath of the event, both the Bulgarian Football Union President Borislav Mihaylov and Bulgarian team manager Krasimir Balakov resigned from their posts. Numerous fans were also arrested in connection with the incident. UEFA has recently revised its protocol to encourage match closure should racist abuse be present mid-play.
The No Room For Racism kit and stadium theme will be made available in FIFA 20 “soon”. They will be free to download. You can find out more about the Premier League’s awareness campaign over at the official site.
