At the time of writing, Elden Ring‘s long awaited DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, will be launching in just over a week on June 21. In case you weren’t aware, though, you can’t jump straight into it unless you’ve at least managed to defeat two of the base game’s optional boss fights; a feat a significant number of players still haven’t done.
During a interview with Famitsu this past February, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that, in order to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and its new area, the Realm of Shadow, you need to have already killed Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. Sounds simple enough, but everyone knows that Elden Ring‘s boss fights are anything but simple or easy to beat. What’s more, you could very easily miss Mohg during your own playthrough, so be sure to read our guide on how to find and beat Mohg in case you haven’t done so already.
Don’t feel bad if you haven’t; a lot of other Elden Ring players still haven’t beaten Mohg either. On Twitter, Twitch streamer Cohh Carnage revealed that, on Steam, only 37.8% of players had acquired the Shardbearer Mohg achievement you get for killing Mohg. This prompted publisher Bandai Namco to tweet out a warning/reminder on June 11 and, since then, the number’s only gone up to 38.7% according to official Steam stats.
Things look a bit better on PlayStation and Xbox. According to tracking sites TrueTrophies and TrueAchievements, 65% of PlayStation players and 54% of Xbox players have claimed the Shardbearer Mohg trophy/achievement, but this still leaves a lot of players that won’t be able to play the DLC. Looking at the stats, there are also plenty of people that haven’t even defeated Radahn yet. At the time of writing, 54.5% of Steam players, 77% of PlayStation players, and 70% of Xbox players have received the Shardbearer Radahn achievement for beating him.
It’s likely that a portion of those players simply dropped off Elden Ring sometime after buying it, and may have no intention of returning to the game. Fortunately, for those who do want to play the DLC and haven’t got round to defeating Radahn and/or Mohg, the Elden Ring community is full of people willing to share advice. Plus, the game has a summon mechanic that lets you call on other players for aid during fights, so be sure to take advantage of that.
