Epic Games has removed region lock from Fortnite for all tournaments except Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS). This effectively means that players can join multiple tournaments without any restrictions based on their region. Now, players in the North American region can join tournaments in Europe and Asia.
The official Fortnite Competitive account on X/Twitter announced, “Effective now (apart from FNCS) we will be removing region lock from all tournaments.”
“This also applies to this season’s ongoing tournaments. If you previously played in one region for an event, you can now play in other regions in that event.”
Earlier, players had to wait a whole season to change their season just to take part in a Fortnite Competitive Tournament in a different region.
The decision from Epic Games was met with a positive response from fans, but the lack of explanation behind this change has created speculations. Some Fortnite fans feel that Epic Games made this decision to tackle an alleged player count on Fortnite or to increase engagement in the competitive modes. However, it is speculation at best with no stats to back these assumptions.
Now with no region lock in place, players can even compete in the same tournament in different regions, meaning that they can take part in the Victory Cup in Europe, and then North America, or vice-versa.
This gives aspiring competitive players more stages to showcase their skills and earn money. As for streamers, it opens up a new venue of content, as they can extend their streaming sessions to provide more competitive content, as opposed to simply playing ranked or queuing up in public lobbies.
