Freebies will be available to download next week
Epic Games Store has revealed the next two titles that will be made available for download to all users, free-of-charge. From July 22 until July 29. As spotted by VGC, anyone with an EGS account will be able to download Blackmill Games WWI shooter Verdun, as well as Hidden Path Entertainment’s sci-fi battler Defense Grid: The Awakening.
First released on PS4, PC, and Xbox in the late-’10s, Verdun is a squad-based FPS set against the backdrop of The Battle of Verdun, a bloody conflict that took place on the Western Front in 1916. Verdun supports up to 64 players in teams of four as they engage in violent warfare in the trenches of WWI. Verdun took pride in its authenticity in regards to weapons, equipment, and uniforms. Verdun received reasonable reviews on PC, though its console ports fared worse, critically.
Defense Grid: The Awakening was released to PC in 2008, at the height of the Tower Defense craze. Hidden Path Entertainment’s take on the strategic genre adopts an intergalactic war setting, tasking players with building effective defenses in order to fend off waves of invading insectoid aliens. Receiving fair-to-good reviews from critics and fans, Defense Grid: The Awakening was followed by expansion packs Borderlands and You Monster.
Both titles join the Epic Games Store free games archive on July 22, so you still have a few days with which to secure the current freebies: Cyan Worlds’ adventure game Obduction and Mohawk Games’ OTS Offworld Trading Company.
