ESRB censors Dead Island logo

Recommended Videos

It seems crazy to me that the ESRB has the power to censor logos and box art, but they certainly have the power. They did it with Left 4 Dead 2, and now they’re doing it with Dead Island. Having a cool image means nothing when there are sensibilities to protect!

The original logo features the silhouette of a corpse hanging from a palm tree. The new North American logo just has a regular zombie shambling along instead. It seems that Europe will get the unaltered version.

The issue probably stems from the fact that the original logo is not implicitly a zombie. It could look like a suicide — or worse — a lynching. I guess we’ll find out when European kids start hanging themselves from street lights of burning crosses in people’s yards … because game logos can make that happen.

The edit seems silly and pointless to me, but whatever. So long as the game itself remains intact they can demand a unicorn’s anus on the box.
