Yakuza Kiwami 2 makes strong showing
After F1 2018 and Shenmue 1 & 2 succeeded in dethroning the long-standing reign of Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy in last week’s UK Chart listing, things have gone very differently for the two new releases.
Codemasters’ F1 2018 has managed to hold on to pole position, enjoying its second week at number one. The racing title fended off Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, which has debuted at number two. While that is an impressive spot, chart tracking site GFK are also reporting that PES physical sales were down around 40% on last year’s entry. Yikes.
Sega’s Shenmue I & II, however, has suffered a heavy second week drop-off, moving from number two to number 33 in just seven days. Sega can take some comfort not only in Shenmue’s strong launch, but also in remastered sequel Yakuza Kiwami 2, which made an impressive debut, landing straight into the Top Five.
Elsewhere in the charts, Capcom’s Switch title Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate debuted at number nine, whilst Sony’s Firewall: Zero Hour lands at number 11. It’s a bit of an unfortunate start for Rebellion’s great-looking shooter Strange Brigade at number 16, but a Top 20 debut is not to be sniffed at. Divinity: Original Sin II brings up the rear at number 23.
September brings with it a ton of great-looking releases, all of which will be vying for your hard-earned buckeroos. Batten down the hatches, because it’s going to be a pretty hectic battle.
