Fiends are groups of more difficult variations of normal enemies within Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Chadley will have you fight them for intel alongside his aggravating sidekick, MAI. We’ve got maps for all six Grassland Fiend locations below, along with the special Combat Assignments you’ll need to meet for more enemy intel.
Fiend Intel 1: Voracious and Venomous – Venorat
Combat Assignments:
- Pressure an enemy.
- Stagger an enemy
- Avoid being poisoned
The Venorat is located along the north coast in an abandoned building that looks a bit like a factory or warehouse. It’s north and slightly east from Bill’s ranch, and just west of the beach.
One of the goals requires you not to be poisoned during the fight, which sounds like it would be difficult in a fight against something called “venorat.” However, the hardest goal is actually to pressure the rodent, since they’re easy to stagger or kill before you even realize what’s happening.
To pressure the Venorat, you need to exploit their elemental weakness to ice. Simply hit them with an ice materia spell, and that will put them in a pressured state. From there, it’s easy to stagger them. Even without pressuring or staggering the Venorats, they’re pretty easy to take down. You just won’t complete the optional Intel Objectives if you don’t.
Fiend Intel 2: Bearer of Grudges – Enmidunk
Combat Assignments:
- Pressure an enemy.
- Stagger an enemy.
- Defeat all enemies within the time limit.
The Enmidunk are located about as far southeast as you can go in the Grasslands. They’re located atop a hill that is covered in military wreckage.
The Enmidunk is one of the tougher fiends of the Grasslands. This is mostly due to their resilience against attack. Your objectives are, at least, straightforward enough. You need to pressure and stagger the enemies, then defeat them in the time limit, which is a pretty easy threshold to get under.
To pressure the Enmidunk, you need to hit their elemental weakness, which is ice in this case. However, doing so will cause them to raise their defenses against attack. My suggestion is to hit them with ice, and then use Cloud’s Focus Thrust to push them closer to staggered. Once they’re staggered, hit them with everything you can to try and eliminate them quickly.
If you’re having trouble knocking them out beneath the time limit, consider using the Shiva summon materia. Her attacks are ice magic, which is always effective against the Enmidunk.
Fiend Intel 3: Keepers of the Burrow – Mi
Combat Assignments:
- Pressure both fire- and ice-imbued enemies.
- Stagger an enemy.
- Defeat all enemies within the time limit.
You’ll find the fiends on the West side of the swamp in Grasslands.
This is a fight where you need to be careful and quick. The tricky part here is the first optional Intel Objective: Pressure both Fire- and Ice-Imbued enemies. There are two ice Mi and one fire. To pressure them, you need to take advantage of their elemental weaknesses. For the ice Mi, it’s fire, and for the fire Mi, it’s ice.
The tricky part is that both of them will duck underground, and you can cast your spell, but you can’t hit them at this time. You need to build up your ATB, wait until they pop up, and then cast your spell.
Since there are two ice Mi, they’re what you should build your ATB up with, since if one of them dies before you can use an elemental spell, you still have the other. Focus on the fire Mi first, since if they die before you can pressure them, the objective won’t be completed.
Fiend Intel 4: Wailing Weed – Mandrake (Mandragora)
Combat Assignments:
- Prevent enemies from using Quick Nap.
- Stagger an enemy.
- Defeat all enemies within the time limit.
The Mandrakes are found just Southeast of Kalm. They’re a variant of Mandragora and essentially just look like sentient weeds. They’re one of the easier fiends to fight, but one of the optional intel objectives is to beat them without letting them use Quick Nap.
Your best bet is to hit them hard and pressure them as quickly as possible. To do this, you merely need to attack their elemental weakness, which is fire. Having one party member with Fire should be enough, but it doesn’t hurt to slot a few with Fire materia.
I didn’t have a problem with Mandrake. They don’t use Quick Nap very often and can be interrupted without much resistance. Keep the heat on them, and it won’t be too difficult.
If you’re trying to find the non-unique Mandragora variation, search directly east of Kalm on the road. They appear as little tufts of grass and usually hang out with Orcs.
Fiend Intel 5: Picky Eater – Aggrevrikon
Combat Assignments:
- Pressure an enemy.
- Stagger an enemy.
- Defeat all enemies within the time limit.
Found East of Midgar and South of Kalm, the Aggrevrikon fight can be a little vexing. This is largely because they have the ability to turn you into a frog. While you can still (sort of) attack, you can’t use spells, and the effect lasts quite a while. You need a Maiden’s Kiss to turn back quickly.
Aggrevrikon are weak to fire and ice attacks, which is also how you pressure them. Their assessment information mentions that if they pick up a rock, they’re immune to frontal attacks. They’ll drop the rock if hit with a powerful ability. However, I never saw them do this. That’s not to say it won’t happen to you, so I’m just arming you with information.
Fiend Intel 6: Voltaic Canine – Thunderclaw
Combat Assignments:
- Pressure an enemy.
- Stagger an enemy.
- Defeat all enemies within the time limit.
A herd of Thunderclaws can be found just East of the Midgar checkpoint. Their intel objectives for them are pretty straightforward. You just have to beat them in a generous time limit.
Detrimental effects will pressure Thunderclaw. This means that poison, stun, or sleep will put you on the path to staggering them. You can brute force your way through (that’s what I did), but they have no elemental weaknesses, so you may want to equip appropriate materia before diving into battle.
